Por que los republicanos usan propanganda anticomunista en su campana?

Hoy los republicanos acaban de divulgar un ads con la propia voz de Romney hablando en Español, donde acusan al presidente Obama de socialista. En el anuncio usan palabras dichas por Chavez, por Mariela Castro, y una foto del Che que dicen fue utilizada por la campana de Obama. Me pregunto, por que? Esta no es la primera vez que lo hacen, pero ahora en los dias finales antes de las elecciones, recurren de manera mas abierta a la estrategia del miedo. Básicamente, los republicanos han estado utilizando publicidad anticomunista en contra de Obama en su campana política por varias razones,  una de ellas es porque saben que este es un sentimiento que esta presente en la sicología de muchos americanos, de forma consciente o inconsciente. Entonces usan esto como una forma de intimidar, manipulando demagógicamente al electorado. Tambien es una manera de influir mas directamente en la poblacion Hispana, en los cubanos de la Florida en especial, a quienes el tema toca mas de cerca.  Algunos comentarios en youtube al video son muy ilustrativos. Es decir mucha gente afirma que lo peor es que hay gente a la que esto le funciona, y creen que Obama es comunista.

This is not new to us. Our politics in every latin american country are doing just the same, linking every liberal candidate to Chávez, Cuba, the soviets, Robespierre... and why not? Spartacus! But worst of all is that there are people who believe this kind of lies.

Hace poco, un periodista pregunto a una mujer, durante un reportaje televisivo, por que ella decía que Obama era comunista, la susodicha no pudo responder, no pudo dar una explicación. Es decir, en general cuando se usa este argumento no hay mucha conciencia de por que se dice. Esto es lo que pudiéramos  llamar un cliché, es decir, tratar de desacreditar a una persona sin un análisis serio, solo basado en prejuicios, en estereotipos.

Por otro lado, muchos americanos ignoran la diferencia entre comunismo y socialismo, e ignoran la cantidad de partidos y gobiernos socialistas que hay en el mundo, en Europa por ejemplo, o en Canada. Es decir, desconocen la historia de la social-democracia, los aspectos positivos del socialismo en general, y los diferentes tipos de socialismos reales que han existido y existen. Muchos creen que el sistema social mas democrático del mundo es el capitalismo norteamericano. Han sido muchos agnos de lavado de cerebros a través de los medios de difusión y de la educacion. En muchos programas de historia que se enseñan en este país en la escuela publica basica se califica al socialismo casi como una aberración histórica, y a los países del Tercer Mundo se les define simplemente como países pobres.

Todo ello ha contribuido a crear muchas falacias en el pensamiento de muchas personas, que ahora son utilizadas por los republicanos en su propaganda política para confundir, dividir y vencer. Me referiré a 3 fundamentales.

En primer lugar, la falacia producto de creer en verdades a medias o simplificadas. La historia real del socialismo se ha simplificado y/o distorsionado bastante. Muchas veces, esta historia se ha presentado como una tosca caricatura que no refleja una realidad que es mucho mas compleja, con sus aspectos negativos, pero también positivos. Por experiencia personal puedo decir que, por ejemplo, la idea que tienen los americanos acerca de Cuba es muy distorsionada, ademas, no saben mucho de las agresiones provenidas de este lado. También, la derecha cubana de Miami, dominada por el sector mas extremo que emigro durante los primeros agnos de la revolución en la isla, y que son de fuerte tendencia republicana, ha contribuido a dar una imagen muy parcializada del socialismo como ideología y como sistema social, identificandolo solamente con sus aspectos mas negativos. No es menos cierto que, a pesar de los innegables graves errores del socialismo real, Cuba , por ejemplo, mantuvo siempre los mejores indicadores en la salud, la educación, la ciencia, el deporte, y la cultura en general, por encima de los demás países Latinoamericanos. Pero esto ha sido ignorado y ocultado sistemáticamente por los sectores mas derechistas de la emigración cubana, promoviendo la ideologia anticomunista en el pueblo americano y el desconocimiento de los valores del pueblo y la historia de Cuba.

En segundo lugar, la falacia debido al uso de etiquetas, categorizaciones tendenciosas, y estereotipos. Algunos sectores de la sociedad americana creen en esa opinión superficial y maniquea  que se maneja por muchos acerca de que si alguien defiende a los trabajadores, a los mas necesitados, a los inmigrantes hispanos, si quiere implantar una reforma del sistema de salud donde todos tengan acceso justo a la atención medica, apoya la lucha por la protección del medio ambiente, o quiere acabar con el militarismo, entonces es un/una comunista. Básicamente, los que luchan por instaurar estos valores son considerados "radicales" y cercanos a posiciones socialistas o comunistas. Nunca olvidare lo que me contesto mi profesor de ciencias políticas en la universidad el semestre pasado cuando en medio de una clase yo le hice una pregunta acerca de Obama. El afirmo que el actual presidente era muy "radical" e idealista, y eso es no le ganaría popularidad. Su respuesta fue tendenciosa y subjetiva, pues las idead de Obama representan los intereses de las mayorías trabajadoras de este país donde se incluyen amplios sectores de la llamada clase media, y de todo los sectores progresistas de la nación mas allá de cualquier pertenencia a una clase o grupo social en particular.

En tercer lugar, la falacia del error por el terror. Una vez mas, los republicanos prueban su ignorancia, el caracter manipulador de su política, y su tendencia al retroceso de la historia, acercandose en su mentalidad a las peores épocas de la historia de este pais, como lo fue la llamada era de la cacería de brujas del MacChartyismo.  Como muchos sabemos, durante esos agnos de guerra fría, se persiguieron y procesaron como criminales a muchas personas simplemente por su afiliación ideo-politica. Se acuso de comunistas principalmente a cientos de intelectuales, artistas, y lideres sindicales, los cuales perdieron sus trabajos y fueron literalmente excluidos de la sociedad de diferentes maneras.  Los republicanos saben que van a perder y tratan de meter miedo resucitando viejas tretas, usando eso que Carlos Marx llamo "el fantasma del comunismo", porque saben que esto puede funcionar en un electorado mas impulsivo de ultima hora.

Por lo tanto, lo mas recomendable es evitar la manipulación y tener claridad acerca de los hechos reales, no dejarnos confundir ni dividir. La manera en que los líderes republicanos están orientando su campana prueba que tipo de gobierno podríamos esperar de ellos. Este significaría un giro reaccionario hacia el racismo, el ingerencismo militarista, el derechismo politico, la destrucción de los logros históricos del movimiento sindical, el bloqueo al movimiento medio-ambientalista mundial, y la reafirmacion  de los intereses de los grandes corporaciones y la mentalidad imperialista de los que solo interesa mantener sus millones y su poder hegemonista a todo costo. La mayoria de la población norteamericana debe saber eso y espero voten por Obama.

Why the Republicans are using the anticommunism in their campaign?

Today the Republicans just posted in the medias an advertisement with Romney's own voice speaking in Spanish, which accuse Obama of socialism. This ads use words spoken by Chavez, by Mariela Castro, and a photo of Che Guevara. I just wondering why this? This is not the first time that they do it, but now in the final days before the election they are more openly getting this trick to intimidate people. The republicans have been using antiommunism advertising against Obama in his campaign for many reasons but basically because they know that this is a feeling that is present in the psyche of many Americans, consciously or unconsciously. It is a way to manipulate the electorate demagogically, to confuse, divide, and may be, win. As well, it is a way to more directly influence the Hispanic population in Florida, to the Cubans especially, who feel the subject more closely. In fact, Florida historically has been republican because the Cubans vote.Recently, a reporter asked a woman, during a television interview why she said that Obama was a communist, the woman could not answer, could not explain. That is in general the way how this argument is used. It is awareness that is said. This is such  a cliché. It is when someone try to discredit a person, but without a serious analysis, only based on prejudices, and stereotypes. Comments made in youtube about this video are very illustrative. We can see how someones think it is a negative ad and the worse part of all of this is that there are people thinking Obama is a communist.

This is not new to us. Our politics in every latin american country are doing just the same, linking every liberal candidate to Chávez, Cuba, the soviets, Robespierre... and why not? Spartacus! But worst of all is that there are people who believe this kind of lies.

Certainly, many Americans don’t know the difference between communism and socialism, and ignore the number of parties and socialist governments in the world, in Europe, for example, or in Canada. Also, they ignore the historical role of social democracy, the positive aspects of socialism in general and the different types of real socialism that have existed and do exist. Many of them believe that the more democratic system that exists in the world is the American capitalism. There have been long years of brainwashing through the media and education. For example, in many history programs taught in this country in basic public school socialism is defined as a historical aberration, and Third World countries are simply considered  poor countries.

All these issues mentioned above has contributed to many fallacies in the reasoning of many people. I will address three fundamental.

First, the fallacy as a consequence of misinformation and half true. There have been told many lies, and distortions about the real history of socialism. It has been simplified until create a rough and false  image far away from a real social experience that has had negative, but also possitive features. According my personal view, I can say that, for example, the idea that Americans have about Cuba is very distorted, moreover, they do not know much of the attacks stemmed from their country to Cuba. Also, Miami Cuban right wing, dominated by the most extreme group that emigrated from the Island during the first years of Fidel Castro revolution which are strong Republican trend, has helped to give a very biased picture of Cuban socialism, recognizing only its negative aspects. The fact remains that despite the undeniable serious errors of socialism, Cuba remained always the best indicators in health, education, science, sports, and culture in general, above all of the other Latin american countries. But that was systematically ignored and hidden by the most right-wing Cuban migration, promoting anti-communist ideology in the American people and the ignorance of people's values ​​and history of Cuba.

Second, the fallacy for following labels and tendencious classifications. Some sectors of American society believe that who defends workers, Hispanic immigrants, wants to implement a reform health fair where everyone has access to health care, advocating the protection of the environment, or wants to end militarism, is a communist politician. Those that support these values  are considered "radical", which is almost a synonymous of socialist or communism. I will never forget what my political science professor told me during a class time at college, the last semester, when I asked about Obama. He said more or less that Obama was so radical  and idealistic that his policy will not be popular. That answer was very biassed. Really, the "radical"values Obama defends are representing legitimate interests of the majority of workers of the USA, which include large sections of the middle class, and the best part of the America nation beyond whatever class o social group belong.

Third, the fallacy of error by terror. It is easy some times to make people get wrong ideas under pressure, under fear. The republicans are approaching to the mentality of the worst periods in the history of this country, as it was called was hunting Witch of MacChartyismo. As many know, during those cold war years many people were persecuted and prosecuted as criminals simply because of their political ideological affiliation. There were accused of communists mainly hundreds of intellectuals, artists, and union leaders, who lost their jobs and were literally excluded from society in different ways. The Republicans know that they will lose and try to scare resurrecting old tricks, using the specter of communism because they know that this can work in a more impulsive electorate of last minute.

Ultimately, it is important avoid fallacies being clear about what the real facts are. The republican leaders right now are proving with the way they are addressing their campaign how their government could be. It would do a new reactionary turning point towards racism, interventionism militaristic, right-wing political prevalence, the destruction of the historic achievements of the labor movement, the exclusion of the global environmental movement, and the reaffirmation of the interests of large corporations and their imperialist ideology which only want to keep their millions and their hegemonic power at all costs. Most the Americans people should know this and hopefully will vote for Obama.
